You’re planning on buying a vibrator, so where the heck do you begin?  With so many choices available, it’s best to have an idea of what type of stimulation you’re looking for.  Vibrating pleasure products (aka sex toys) come in all shapes, sizes, colors, textures and price ranges- there’s something for everyone.

At a typical Goodies Girl Pleasure Soiree we discuss/see/touch a variety of these buzzing beauties and today, I’ll give you a brief rundown of the common vibrator types.

VIBRATOR 101

1, Bullet Vibrators- Bullets are small, discreet, bullet-shaped (aha!) vibes.  Traditionally used as a clitoral stimulator,  the bullet can be used all over the body, both internally and externally.  I am a huge advocate of the almighty bullet… I think that if you have to choose only one pleasure enhancement product, the bullet should definitely be it! Check here and here for previous posts I’ve written about why I love the bullet so, as well as some handy-dandy tips.

2. Basic/ Traditional Vibrators- This type of vibe is typically battery operated and has a basic shape, usually with a hard shell.  Much like a bullet vibrator, the traditional vibe can be used internally and externally and is also wonderful for sensory play all over the body.

3. G-Spot Vibrators-  As the name refers, these vibrators are targeted to stimulate a woman’s G-Spot.  They will have a curved and/or bulbous head and can be either firm or soft/jellylike.

4. Multi-Function Vibrators- Designed to offer both internal and external vibrations and/or rotations simultaneously this vibe usually provides varying speeds and functions.  Many multi-function vibes are called “Rabbit Vibrators” based on their shape and design, often resembling a “rabbit”.

Ever wonder why a vibrator would look like a rabbit?  A large percentage of these vibrators are manufactured in Japan, where it is illegal to produce a product that resembles a penis!  These manufacturers had to “cuten” them up, and voila’! the Rabbit was born!

5. Life-Like / Phallic Vibrators- Created to look like a real penis, these life-like vibrators come in various shapes, sizes, materials, and colors.  They can be used internally or externally and usually offer varying speeds of vibration.

6.Couples Ring Vibrators- Specifically designed for couples play, these vibrators usually offer clitoral stimulation for her, while providing stimulation to the penis and testicles for him.  A typical couples vibrator will have a bullet vibe attached to a penis ring that is in a jelly or silicone casing.  The ‘ring’ is designed to go around the penis shaft (either above or below the testicles) and can enhance the duration of his erection. These are sometimes referred to as Vibrating Love-Rings, C-Rings or Cock-Rings.

7. Anal Vibrators- Traditionally made of the same materials as vaginally designed vibrators, anal vibes usually offer slim designs for insertion (although they are available in many different sizes)  and can be used by both women and men.  It is imperative that all anal vibrators (as well as any pleasure product that will be inserted into the anus) have a flared base and/or string for safe removal.  The sphincter muscles are very strong, and you never want to risk anything getting lost in your rectum.

These are just the general vibrator categories   Many of these styles cross-over… bullets that have dual functions, Life-Like vibes that offer clitoral stimulation, waterproof vibrators…the list goes on and on.  As I mentioned above, there is a vibrating pleasure product out there to suit just about everyone’s fancy!
